Boats N' Hoes

I apologize for not having updated this for a week. I really have done nothing but then again, I have had nothing really to talk about. I decided for this week, I was going to just talk about my taste in music. Here are 10 albums that I feel fully describe my taste in music:

1. Cursive - The Ugly Organ
It contains all of my favorite elements of music in one band. It has the aggressive, stressful guitar work alongside a nice, deep, rich cello. When you listen to Tim Kasher's range of almost whispers to incredibly brash shouting backed, on 4 tracks, by Jenny Lewis's vocals, it just makes for a flawless composition. By far the single best Cursive album and one of the top albums I own.
To sum it up: Shouting, Cello, Female vocals. That's what makes this album amazing.

2. The Dodo's - Visiter
Originally, what drew me to this album was the first track, Walking. There is a very soothing banjo on top of this sort of droning fingerpicking. As we arrive at the chorus, vocalist Meric Long (what a badass name) is complimented by the very soothing voice of Laura Gibson. Meric has an incredible way of harmonizing to himself on this album in a very strange, but suitable way.
This album features some very incredible acoustic guitar work and some very simple but powerful drumming.
To sum it up: Soothing vocals, Duo, Great female vocalist, Awesome Drumming, Strange instruments.

3. Françoise Hardy - Tant De Belles Choses
The only thing I have to say about this is she has one of the most romantic voices I think I have ever heard. She is a french jazz/pop singer and her music is so incredibly tranquil, perfect to fall asleep to. And she is not too bad looking :)
To sum it up: Beautiful voice, Female singer, Attractive.

4. Death From Above 1979 - You're a Woman, I'm a Machine
I love duos for some reason. When it seems like two people can do the work of 5, it absolutely blows me away. The fact that Death From Above 1979 does this, and without the use of a guitar, makes my mind hurt. Their bass/synth player, Jesse F. Keeler, is a massive inspiration for me. God, I cant even put into words how awesome he is. Drummer/Vocalist Sebastian Grainger seems to know the exact vocal melodies/drum parts for every single song. There isn't a song on this album I don't like.
To sum it up: Duo, Drum And Bass band, Bass sounds like a guitar.

5. Wu-Tang Clan - Enter The Wu-Tang (36 Chambers)
Wu-Tang Clan ain't nuthin' ta fuck wit.
To sum it up: Wu-Tang Clan ain't nuthin' ta fuck wit.

6. 2 0' Clock Girlfriend - A Tale Of Two Cities
This was a big inspiration for the band started by Ben Gogolski and I called Parachute Whore. We attempted to just freestyle 1 minute songs (which we failed at because ours were lik 3 minutes). We tried to make them as brutal as possible. This wouldn't have happened without 2 o' Clock Girlfriend.

7. The Sound of Animals Fighting - Lover, The Lord Has Left Us
I really like experimental music. Like, when bands just throw random sounds in to add effect or use sounds as percussion (IE a soup ladel stiring stew cut up in production to create a percussive beat). This album really does it for me. Anthony Green and Craig Owens on vocals definitely helps.
To sum it up: Experimental/Digital, Anthony Green, Craig Owens.

8. Son of Dust - Nothing Released Yet, But Everything They Have Made

So, they don't have an album out per se, but Ben Gogolski and Nick Ivanovich have definitely been working hard, and it REALLY shows. I have seen them live a few times and I have been friends with them for a VERY long time. Their music spans from being incredibly dancy to incredibly brutal, to incredibly euphoric and everywhere in between. If you are reading this, go to myspace.com/thesonofdust and listen to anything they have done. Leave them a comment. Do it for me. They are quite possibly the two most talented musicians I have ever encountered and to say I expect big things in their future is an understatement. Probably my favorite band out there.
To sum it up: Duo, Electronic, Great guys, INCREDIBLE musicians, Really catchy.

9. Black Kids - Partie Traumatic
I just recently discovered them the other day, but they have been growing on me really really quickly. They make me think of a really modern version of The Cure. I know The Cure is still around, but this album is everything I loved in 80's cure, but revived. Plus, I haven't listened to much of The Cure's newer stuff.
To sum it up: 80's neopop.

10. The Smiths - Louder Than Bombs
I want to be Morrissey.
To sum it up: Morrissey.

9 days until I post my movie log.
